Discover Downtown- Revitalization on the Horizon
Vision Statement:
Downtown Pilot Mountain, sitting at the foot of North Carolina’s most iconic natural landmark, offers a mountain vibe through music and arts and a variety of shopping and farm to table experiences in a pedestrian/cycling friendly environment. Downtown serves as the basecamp for outdoor adventure and agritourism promoting an active lifestyle bringing it all together as a place for families to thrive in mind, body, and soul.
Since 2017, the Main Street Coordinating Committee has been leading a revitalization effort in downtown Pilot Mountain in order to develop and support a vibrant community with a thriving and prosperous local economy. We aim to do this by highlighting our unique assets and characteristics while creating inviting public spaces. We have modeled our efforts after Main Street America’s "4-Point Approach" to transform our town. The Main Street Coordinating Committee is an advisory committee for the Town of Pilot Mountain/ Board of Commissioners.
The purpose of the Main Street Coordinating Committee (MSCC) is to:
- Serve as an advisory committee providing guidance to Town Staff and the Board of Commissioners related to downtown revitalization and leading economic development efforts for the Town.
- Encourage downtown economic development in Pilot Mountain, leveraging unique natural assets and cultural heritage for the benefit of citizens and Surry County.
- Develop initiatives for a resilient local economy and improved quality of life through inclusive community engagement.
- Support long-term planning for downtown Pilot Mountain through a 5-year community-engaged plan, managed and executed by the Main Street Coordinator, and reviewed annually for task completion.
- Coordinate the NC Main Street Program efforts and ensure adherence to the Main Street 4 Point Approach.
- Preserve the historical significance of downtown buildings, facilities, and spaces.
- Promote Downtown Pilot Mountain as a prime investment location, attracting businesses, investors, developers, and stakeholders to strengthen its business, cultural, and entertainment environments.

Want to be apart of the the change?
There is always a way to get involved with what is happening downtown. Below are a few opportunities that we have coming up.
- Serve on our Executive Board or Subcommittees Many of our meetings are now virtual and can be attended from anywhere!
- Material Distribution: Distribute event flyers and posters to downtown businesses, also occasional notices to businesses
- Information Booth: Man the booth, Give out flyers, brochures, maps, and answer questions
- Fundraising: work on fundraising and sponsorship opportunities
- Event Volunteer: The day of an event can get pretty chaotic- we could use your help! (Vendor check in, vendor placement, clean up, Wristband sales, and more!)
