The Pilot Mountain Tourism Development Authority (TDA) was established by the North Carolina General Assembly in 2009.  The Authority expends remitted occupancy revenues collected by the Town to promote travel and tourism in the Town of Pilot Mountain.  The six member governing board of the Authority is appointed by the Pilot Mountain Board of Commissioners, but operates somewhat independently of the Town of Pilot Mountain.  The TDA meets on the 2nd Friday of every month at 9:00 AM in the Pilot Mountain Visitors Center.

The TDA participates in the Tourism Partnership of Surry County which is a collaboration between the County TDA and the four municipal TDA's (i.e. Dobson, Elkin, Mount Airy and Pilot Mountain).  The Tourism Partnership manages a countywide marketing program with funding provided by all five TDA's.
