Structure:

The Main Street Coordinating Committee (MSCC) is comprised of six members who are all appointed by the Pilot Mountain Board of Commissioners.  The MSCC is charged with coordinating the Town's downtown redevelopment efforts and advising the staff and Board of Commissioners on policy issues related to main street revitalization, expenditure of Town funds on Main Street revitalization efforts, and other related topics.  This group meets  the last Thursday of the Month Jan- November at Town Hall.   This group has 3 smaller subcommittees Design, Economic Vitality, & Promotion.

 

Vision Statement:

Downtown Pilot Mountain, sitting at the foot of North Carolina’s most iconic natural landmark, offers a mountain vibe through music and arts and a variety of shopping and farm to table experiences in a pedestrian/cycling friendly environment. Downtown serves as the base camp for outdoor adventure and agritourism promoting an active lifestyle bringing it all together as a place for families to thrive in mind, body, and soul.   

     

Since 2017, the Main Street Coordinating Committee has been leading a revitalization effort in downtown Pilot Mountain in order to develop and support a vibrant community with a  thriving and prosperous local economy. We aim to do this by highlighting our unique assets and characteristics while creating inviting public spaces. We have modeled our efforts after Main Street America’s "4-Point Approach"  to transform our town. The Main Street Coordinating Committee is an advisory committee for the Town of Pilot Mountain/ Board of Commissioners.

The purpose of the Main Street Coordinating Committee (MSCC) is

  • To strengthen the business, cultural, and entertainment environments in downtown Pilot Mountain. 
  • To serve as a voice of the business and property owners in downtown Pilot Mountain. Recruit business and property owners to participate in any development efforts of downtown. 
  • To support and coordinate long-term planning for downtown Pilot Mountain. With the assistance of the Main Street Coordinator, the MSCC will  create, manage, and execute a 5 year plan of work developed as a result of community engagement. This Plan of Work is to be reviewed and updated annually to ensure tasks are met. Serve as the coordinating committee for the NC Main Street Program. Ensure that the Town of Pilot Mountain’s downtown development efforts adhere to the Main Street 4 Point Approach
  • To preserve the character of the downtown district by protecting the historical significance of the buildings, facilities, and spaces within downtown pilot mountain
  • To promote downtown Pilot Mountain as THE place to invest. Develop initiatives that create a resilient local economy, improve the quality of life by promoting community preservation through inclusive engagement. Undertake activities to attract businesses, investors, developers, and other persons and entities to invest in and take part of the development of Downtown Pilot Mountain. Promote, stimulate and encourage the development of Downtown Pilot Mountain, NC in a manner beneficial to the citizens of Pilot Mountain and Surry County.
